First opened in 1983 by proprietors Ian and Jan Young, the 7 ¼ inch gauge Ness Islands Railway is Great Britain’s most northerly public miniature railway. Situated in the picturesque Whin Park, roughly a 33 min walk from Inverness city centre, our locomotives will pull you around a half-mile loop on a journey bound to delight passengers of all ages.
Since 2019 the railway has been owned and operated by Highland Hospice, and all surplus funds are used to support the delivery of its services across the Highland region.
Tickets cost £3 a head (under 4s travel free) and we run from the beginning of the Easter holidays until the end of the October holidays. We open from 11am-4pm on weekends during the season, and daily during school holidays, with opening subject to weather – trains cannot operate in wet weather.
